Can you believe it? New Years is in 17.5 hours from this posting. Already we close down 2010, which in the last few months has been somewhat of a shitter for me. But this isn’t about me, this right now is about the music videos. This today, the last Art of Music for 2010 is about looking back on the past and saying “Seriously, wtf was that music video shit!” or having a laugh. So here today, some choice music / videos to cast us into 2011!
Rex Navarrete – Party like it’s 1904 (e_trinity Dumb Hard House Remix)
Rex Navarrete is actually a comedian, but this song comes from his sketch about Philipinos dancing in 1904 or something (here listen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8B5sCHik3Xw), but at some point he starts commenting on the music they just happen to listen to in clubs today (back then in 2001) and makes penis jokes too. Well, the internets got this and made the remix you hear now. Ignore the video content part because it’s kind of retarded. But come on people! Dance like it’s 1904! WHAT A FREAK!
Abba – Happy New Year
Aw… it’s ABBA here to sing us into the new year. Unfortunately I’m close to being deaf now. But if you can still hear, did you happen to listen to the lyrics closely? Yeah seems a little grim. Thanks ABBA, thanks for ruining something else for me. So next year I ask you to take your cheesy, dated, craptastic production video and ‘dissappear’ and ‘laydown and die’.
Europe – The Final Countdown
You know to this day I have no fucking clue if this is actually a new years inspired song, but since I’m still perplex by the concept and fact that Europe (the band) actually exists (existed?). From what I gather from over exposure to this video / the music, they’re the quintessential 80s glam/pop/rock band, tight pants and gravametic hair and all. I swear if they all rocked those dues in unison they could cause a tidal shift. Hell, I’m even feeling a bit of whiplash from watching this. Oh and that’s also some insight on how you make a ‘live’ music video. Learn well.
Robbie Williams – Millennium
Holy CRAP! Look at his face! I’m sorry for invoking Robbie Williams, but he was the only dude that came to mind who actually had a song about the Millennium (aka the year 2000!). Yeah it’s been 11 years since that faithful day when everyone and their mum though the world was going to end, but not our boy Robbie. For him the new times seemed to indicate he’d continue being the British Badboy he never was and also be upgraded to being some sort of spy guy. What any of this has to do with the Millennium is beyond everyone I guess. If you want to see a closer look at how life in the new Millennium was going to be, I suggest you watch the movie ‘Strange Days’.
Snoop Dogg ft. Marty James – New Year’s Eve
Well damn, who thought Snoop Dogg would come up with a song for the new year? But he did it and got Marty James in on it too! Song aside since I’m not really a Snoop fan, the video is really good. It’s nice to see a BW music video of everyone in 20s/30s dress and attire. Hell I think he’s even got a Rolls to drive him along. And yes, that’s his wife he’s with, it was her birthday party. The only comment I can make for this video: more grain! It’s a little too clean and needs less lens flair on Marty there. I would say expect more videos in 2011 to start looking like this, which will lead to a lot of people DOING IT WRONG.
