This week is going to be a bit different, different in the sense it’s kind of NSFW, but why would anyone realistically be reading this blog at work… So if you are, just be careful. I’m going to call this week loosely themed since I really don’t feel like called it fully themed. It’s my blog I can pull shit like that. Anyways, even with my NSFW mention, these are basically all cartoon music videos. Interesting eh? I thought so too since they’re freaken awesome.
Dire Striats – Money for Nothing
Yeah I know that’s really not the Dire Straits, however the original video set up is the same, lyrics are different. The yahoo video link will show the original video. The only original video that was on Youtube is blocked in Canada because after 20 something year someone suddenly became offended at a word in the lyrics. Anyways, this video is special since it was one of the first for CGI music videos. Because of that it’s got a but of a cult following to it and such. If you listen to the full song, it’s actually long as hell, but a great listen.
Junior Senior – Move Your Feet
I don’t think is the first video to use extensive 8-bittery imagery but for me it stands out as one of the first. This is going way way back to 2003. And back then doing something like that in that style was hella tough and a long ass process. If memory serves me correct I think that was roughly the time when the pixellated look was on the rise against the rebellion of smooth 3D cgi and graphics that was going on. I mean the power was there to render stuff nice and sharp, but a segment of the creative community was all ‘FUCK THAT’ and pushed on with low colours and poor textures.
Flairs – Truckers Delight
Yeah this is sort of why I flagged this as NSFW. This video is EPIC and who cares if it’s NSFW. I mean artistically you this has come leaps and bounds from what Junior Senior did 7 years prior. This video takes a big smelly dump on all the others who are even going to try and match it for the next year. Nothing can top this. From the ground up it’s been made to look and feel like a classic Metal Slug game and even then adds some new age 3d modeling twists to kick it up past the max. Jami @ Angry Zen Master found this months and I have yet to seen anything like or better than this. France, Fuck Yeah!
White Stripes – Fell in Love with a Girl
A lot can be said about Michel Gondry, well it’s really one thing said many different ways, that he’s a fucking awesome. He manged to combine good music with LEGO, a past love of my life (well I still love LEGO, not as much, but a 3K piece Star Destroyer is hard not to love.) For some reason I remember seeing this video at nearly the exact same time as the Junior Senior video from above. And thinking a bit more about that 2002/2003 time period, a lot of creative ass shit was coming out which I will try to explore further and find the cause of all that awesome.
