Oh I bet you were all waiting for me to sort of Rick-Roll you with that god damned Friday music video weren’t you. Well fuck that shit. It’s old. Old before Friday. Old when some black kid with a youtube account and twelve people following him made a response to it. I could deconstruct it, but I choose not to. It may be Friday, but it’s any Friday from the 80s this week. If you really want to see that bullshit, Jami at Angry Zen Master has a good deconstruction of it: Rebecca Black is Fucking Gangsta.
RUN DMC – It’s Tricky
WTF? Penn and Teller? I think the most shocking thing about seeing Penn and Teller is not so much the level of their hair so much as seeing a slim Penn. Those dudes are ancient and in like every shadow of main stream pop culture some where some how. To be honest, I’ve never fully followed RUN DMC’s career, but from the looks of this video, I’d have to say this is about the time they really began to sell themselves in every direction. I’d have to say Penn and Teller tend to be one of the signs of your impending pop culture apocalypse. Granted RUN DMC went into the 00’s but realistically, everyone remembers the stuff before they were super stars. Interesting side note: All of RUN DMC is wearing heavy winter jackets with those damn fur rimmed hoods. Can’t we have anything original in the year 2000?
Isaac Hayes – Don’t Let Go
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this video; it’s complete excellence. Lets break down what it has: Dancers in sexy tight spandex, no distracting special effects or sets, and that bad ass mother-shut your mouth Isaac Hayes with his deep sexy disco voice to keep those foxy ladies dancing. Hell next time I go to the club or discotheque, I’m going to demand that the DJ plays some Hayes so I can get my sexy groove on. If some modern sexy time singer happened to re-do this video, that man would come close to touching the face of awesome.
New Kids on the Block – Please Don’t Go Girl
Revisiting the New Kids on the Block, I have to wonder how young men were ever able to live through the 80s and grow to be the Manly Men of Modern Society. I mean since youtube, everyone having the internet and a camera, people are basically making music videos like this. Hell even sort of singing like it. New Kids on the Block must have had such power, that it managed to burn themselves subconsciously into the minds of young women that they even managed to give birth to boys just like the New Kids. I mean, how else could Justin Bieber managed to have gotten both popular and famous in such a short period of time? Watching this video I’m now convinced he’s distilled New Kids on the Block for a new generation. Young men everywhere, fear for your lives.
Cyndi Lauper – Time After Time
It’s often said that the answer to the future lie in the past, that history repeats itself, that he who doesn’t learn the lessons of the past are doomed to repeat them. All I can say is that this is probably where the modern-day chick got the idea to shave off half her head of hair. Anyways, what’s old is new and what’s new is fake. Interestingly Cyndi Lauper was nearly 30 when this video was shot, but she still looks hot. Even at 57 I’d still go for her, like really, go check out her pics and try to tell me she doesn’t still look good. All and all the video is a bit sad, but nicely produced. I only wonder if she happened to be thinking about this at that time.
